Parliamentary Secretary for Western NSW Rick Colless with the help of Bendigo Bank regional manager Tim Butt declared the agency officially open thanks to the community bank committee successfully securing $730,000 in pledges in the past nine months.
Cabonne Council mayor Kevin Beatty and Orange Bendigo Bank branch manager Belinda Larkin were also in attendance.
On behalf of the steering committee for the bank, Cheryl Newsom thanked the community for their support.
“The people of Canowindra have been fantastic and have helped us on this journey. People from far and wide have contributed pledges and been very supportive,” Ms Newsom said.
Bendigo Bank regional manger Tim Butt said it’s up to the community to continue its support to make the bank a success.
He said there’s potential for Bendigo Bank to open a branch in Canowindra in the next 12 to 18 months.
“It’ll only happen if everyone supports it with their business. If no one comes in and banks with the agency it probably won’t grow. I suppose I hand the reins over to you and say good luck I hope you go well,” he said.
Mr Colless cut the ribbon to declare the agency officially open.
“Congratulations to Bendigo for facilitating these sorts of thing where the community needs them. I think it's a great model,” he said.
