Canowindra thumped the struggling Burrangong Bears 66-4 at Tom Clyburn Oval on Sunday, lifting the Tigers to second place on the Woodbridge Cup ladder just three points behind defending premiers Trundle.
The Tigers have now won six in a row and haven’t been beat since round eight.
Barclay was pleased with Sunday’s 11 tries to one victory but was quick to turn the focus to the coming weeks.
“It’s about getting through our processes and worrying about us no matter who we play. It’s about the next job and what we need to do,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to seeing what we do in the tougher games and the test we have.”
Three tries to Lochie Robinson and two to Brydon Hughes helped the Tigers register the 62-point round 16 win.
The Tigers led 18-4 at the break thanks to tries to Robinson, Hughes and Wally Gaeta and three conversions kicked by Dave Doran. An improved second half by he hosts led to a string of tries extending the lead to 66-4.
“I’m happy with the way they put their sets together and played their footy and didn’t get carried away. They played structure and played through their sets,” Barclay said.
“The biggest thing we have to improve on is our starts.”
The match was played at an earlier time than usual with kick-off at 12.40pm before the women’s league tag match at the main time of 2pm.
Barclay said it was a great idea by the club to showcase the league tag team.
“They are very important part of our club. It’s a bit of an appreciation for all they do for the club,” he said.
This week the Tigers travel to Trundle for a top of the table clash.
Victory would give Canowindra a chance of clinching the minor premiership.
