That’s what the inhabitants of Adaminaby found when the famous Big Trout tourist attraction was covered in a hefty mantle of snow this week.
A major dump of snow hit the Snowy Mountains township west of Cooma, with the white stuff thick on the ground.
Andrew Smith, publican of the Snow Goose Hotel, said it was lovely dry snow with big flakes.
“Its was a huge dump for us. We went outside on Tuesday morning and thought ‘wow’,” he said.
“A lot of people in town thought the trout now looked like a salmon. It was snowing fast and was deep, with snow all night.”
The major ski resorts also copped a huge dump with at least 35cm of fresh snow at Thredbo. It also snowed up into the Central Tablelands with roads closed around Oberon.
The snow though has made it difficult for exploratory work to proceed on the Snowy 2.0 scheme near Kiandra where drilling is still under way to find a suitable site for an underground generation chamber.
Meanwhile, Adaminaby is organising a drought relief event on October 20, with barefoot bowls at the Bowling Club followed by a music night at the Snow Goose Hotel.
