A new wave of winemakers and organic producers are meeting the increased demand for sustainable organic produce.
Jason O’Dea of Windowrie Wines says “the organic wines from the region are a testament to the courage and vision of the producers”.
“This is the real thing, family companies making wine from certified organic grapes.
“The Cowra Canowindra region is Australia’s most sustainable wine region with 75% of the brands produced now certified,” he said.
Wines from the region have won many awards including two producers winning Organic Wine of The Year during the last five years.
Anthony D’Onise, Winemaker at Windowrie, says “It’s a really exciting time for the region with a group of producers pushing the boundary with preservative free, organic and Vegan friendly wines that are really good’’.
To celebrate Organic Awareness Month, local wine producers are teaming up with local organic farmers for a new event; Organic Table, to be held at The Old Vic Inn in Canowindra.
Jenny Beasley from the Old Vic says “we are really looking forward to working with 100% organic produce, it just tastes better”.
“Originally, we planned a vegan only dinner however the local organically grown lamb just had to be included on the menu’’.
Local wineries supporting the event include Wallington, Rosnay, Pig in the House, Windowrie and Antonio’s.
Local food producers include Kalavista Organic, Block 11 Organic, Rayz Organic Grazing and Cowra Original Vegetable Farm.
The Organic Table dinner will be held at 6:30pm on Saturday September 15 at the Old Vic Inn, Canowindra.
It's set to be an exquisite sensory experience in a relaxed atmosphere, featuring the best organic food and wine pairings that the region has to offer.
Tickets are limited, $60 per person including wine and are available from the Cowra Visitor Information Centre or online via www.trybooking.com/XMEZ.
