Jamie of Stock and Station Aviation, was working out beyond Silverton when he saw the dust storm build up over Mundi Mundi plains.

It then collected up speed – and dust –  and deposited itself right on Broken Hill, making many inhabitants take cover.

Jamie took these amazing pictures as he returned in his mustering helicopter to Broken Hill on Wednesday.

“It was amazing. I was kind of flying along with it. It was pretty impressive but was really distinctive in where it was, not a big dust storm. I was out mustering past Silverton when I saw it building up over Mundi Mundi Plains.”

Later that day Broken Hill had some of its best rain all year – over 30mm, with areas near Menindee and out to Ivanhoe recording more than 50mm overnight and into Thursday. The rain was patchier north of Broken Hill.

For the first time in a long time Jamie couldn’t fly out on a job today (Thursday) because of the rain. “Yeh we had to pull the show up for the day. But the rain is a very welcome thing to come.”

Silverton even recorded some flashflooding.
