Canowindra’s Julie Middleton and Sally Wallace are looking towards the next triathlon season which begins locally this weekend after competing in the International Triathlon Union world championships held on the Gold Coast in September.

Julie Middleton took took part in the Sprint Distance world titles finishing in 33rd spot in her age group.
Competing in her second world titles Sally Wallace took part in the double, representing Australia in both the Sprint Distance and the Standard Distance, finishing 24th in the Sprint and 25th in the Standard.
The Sprint Distance involved a 750m swim 20km bike ride and 5km run. Standard distance athletes complete a 1500m swim, 40km bike ride and 10km run.
The Cowra Triathlon Club is inviting Canowindra residents to join become involved in the sport when the club launches its new season on Sunday, October 14.
After a few lean seasons in terms of membership the club has decided to change its race day from a Friday evening to Sunday and only race monthly with races to start at 9am.
And there is a new race distance.
“We will continue with the Kids Course, Beginners and 1 lap course but the old two lap course will be replaced with a four lap course comprising a 400m swim, 18km bike and 4km run,” club president Glen Hudson said.
“The longer distance”, he said, “is something the club hopes will attract athletes from other centres as offer race practice for the club’s more serious competitors.
“If you can put together a team you can do any of the four courses as a team,” Glen said.
The Cowra Club’s races for the season will be held on October 14, November 11, December 16, January 20, February 10 and March 10.
Cowra will also race on Sunday, October 21 with this race being the Cowra leg of the Central West Interclub series.
The cost to join Cowra Triathlon Club for the 2018 2019 season is $25 per member - this amount covers the cost of all local races (Pool entry to be paid by competitors).
Members will also be required to join Triathlon Australia.
The Triathlon Australia membership covers the period from July 1 this year to June 30 next year so anyone interested in joining is encouraged to do so early to enjoy benefits of being a member for the full year.
