White Ribbon Day events are held across Australia each year to raise awareness of the incidences of violence.
This Friday, events will be held in Lithgow, Orange, Cowra, Grenfell, Forbes, Young, Parkes and Dolores (near Nyngan) will host a range of events with the community invited to come along.
White Ribbon Australia acting chief executive officer Delia Donovan committees will work alongside ambassadors, advocates and supporters to raise awareness of the steps people can all take to end violence against women and children.
“I urge individuals, workplaces, schools and the broader community to host an event, march or simply have a conversation with their mate about respect because we know violence thrives in disrespect. If we do nothing, nothing will change,” she said.

“All too often we wake to the news of another horrific incident where a woman has died at the hands of a man that is known to her, it has to stop,” Ms Donovan said.

“If this were any other incident involving mass deaths, immediate action would be taken to ensure no more lives were stolen. If this was terrorism, our troops would gather into action, if this was a health outbreak, our health system would be on high alert; we can no longer sit back and watch it happen.
“This is our greatest social challenge and we can only meet that challenge together.”
White Ribbon Day events in the Central West
Cowra
- Morning tea – 15 Vaux Street. Time: 11am-3pm.
Forbes
- Community march – Event will run from Cross Street (outside Carpet Court) and will finish at Victoria Park where there will be music entertainment, speeches and barbecue. Time: 10.30am.
Grenfell (to be held November 21)
- Community walk and morning tea – meet at Main Street Medical Service for walk; morning tea at Grenfell Community Hub. Time: 9.45am.
Lithgow
- White Ribbon Walk – Queen Elizabeth Park, Main Street. Time: 4pm
- Trivia night – Lithgow Workies Club, 3-7 Tank Street, Lithgow. Time: 6pm. Cost $15.
Orange
- Community march – meet outside Anson Street Arcade on Summer Street at 10.15am.
Parkes
- Community march – Begins at the Coles/Target Carpark and proceeds down Clarinda Street to Cooke Park for a free barbecue, speeches, and a cake stall. Meet at 10.45am, march starts at 11am.
Young
- Morning tea – Argyle Community Housing, 4/33 Clarke Street. Time: 10.30am-12.30pm.
