More than 600 people walked through the gates of Tom Clyburn Oval on Friday night to not only raise money but to support those fighting a cancer battle and remembering people who are no longer with us.
One of the organisers, Kobie Rogers, said it was a fantastic evening.
“It was a really good, fun night,” she said.
“The weather was beautiful, there were lots of families.”
This year’s event was especially significant for Ms Rogers after her father died of cancer earlier this year.
“I walked this year as well,” she said.
“It was emotional for me.”
Ms Rogers said the amount of support shown by the Canowindra community was overwhelming.
“It was so pretty being out among the lanterns but it was amazing, the amount of cars that stopped,” she said.
“I thought it was really lovely, they stopped out of respect but also to have a look.”
Ms Rogers said a number of families going through cancer battles also join in the walk.
“We had a family from Parkes, they lost a child 12 months ago who had leukemia,” she said.
“The family came over, the father was born and raised in Canowindra.
“There is also a little girl in town, her grandfather walked.
“It was good to see them supporting during a hard time.”
Ms Rogers also noted the amount of children who were keen to walk with smaller candle lights.
“The kids could carry things around without having to carry big lanterns,” she said.
Aside from the lantern walk, the night also featured between 15 and 18 stalls, activities for the kids and a number of women’s rugby games.
One of the highlights was seeing organiser Colleen Traves have a go on the bucking bull, assisted by Nick Willson.
“There were quite a few stall holders, everyone loved the bucking bull,” she said.
“The girls’ rugby was a big hit, there were some good games in that.
“It was a nice evening.”
