Given the perfect sit behind the leader Maximus Red, trainer and driver Rue had the $6 chance handily placed to make his move in the closing stages of the 2100m feature race to record a half neck win over Maximus Red and backmarker Deeceasar in a mile rating of 2:00.4, winning $6,500 worth of prize money.

The win by the Pet Rock four-year-old was his fourth from 20 starts and no doubt brought tremendous joy to his owner, and long time supporter of the Young club, Daniel Cordina.

Previously trained by Rue's wife, Gemma, the horse had a mixed build-up, with a second place at Blayney's 2400m Billy Soo Memorial on November 17 (driven by Mat and trained by Gemma), followed by a fourth place in the 2120m Gilgandra Cup in Dubbo, with Mat training and not driving.

Mat Rue also competed in the preceding 2100m Ambo Stock Feeds Pace (race three) on Friday night, but failed to place with Smiling Sam, who turned five years old on Sunday.

Instead, trainer Guy Retallick's Brobenah Boy won the race by a neck length, beating pre-race favourite, the Amanda Turnbull-trained Real Dash, with Dean Cernovskis' Long Hot Summer finishing in third.

Young Harness Racing Club also featured another evening of racing at the Paceway on Tuesday night, with Rue scheduled to race in four of the eight events at the time of print. .

He was set to pilot short priced favourites Beast Mode in the 1720m race two and Renee Dale in the 2100m race three as trainer-driver for both horses.

Rue was also scheduled to drive trainer Peter Schiller's So Much Bettor from the second row in the 1720m race four, as well as Matt Cuthbert's Gold Chester in race five (2100m), from the fifth front row position.
