A lighting upgrade at Tom Clyburn Oval was unsuccessful in the latest round of Stronger Country Communities Fund (SCCF) grants due to a lack of community support for the project.

Cabonne Shire Councillors were told at their May meeting on May 26 that the application failed due to community support but the project remained a council priority with the chance of funding under the Building Better Regions program.

Cr Cheryl Newsom asked council staff at the meeting why Canowindra wasn't successful in its application for funding.

"The feedback was the grant application was light on community support," council general manager Brad Byrnes told the meeting.

"Letters of community support, other groups that would've been better to have and more information from the Sports Trust might have assisted

"It is not council's decision, it is the State Government but the reality is it wasn't as strong because it didn't have that supporting information.

"It was based on the fact that there was very little evidence of community support even though the Sports Trust did supply.

"But obviously it is watch this space, we wait for what Building Better Regions brings.

"We are recommending council holds and see what Building Better Regions comes out before we commit to funding from council," Mr Byrne said.
