At its monthly meeting yesterday Cabonne Shire Council was presented with a recommendation that it "conduct a Christmas Light competition in 2020 with $1,700 allocated from the Community Facilitation Fund for prize gift vouchers redeemable at local businesses".
The move follows running of a similar competition in 2019 when Cabonne Council and the Cabonne Country Tourism Advisory Committee launched a Christmas Lights competition throughout the Shire albeit with smaller prizes on offer.
In a report to yesterday's meeting Council's general manager Bradley Byrnes said when launched last year it was envisaged the competition would be an annual event.
"Council now has an opportunity to increase the prize number and/or value, in recognition of the difficult year all residents and business owners have experienced," Mr Byrnes said.
"It is proposed this year to broaden the competition to a residential category to include all seven villages (in Cabonne Shire), being 7 x $100 vouchers and also to support Cabonne businesses, a separate category for business premises throughout the shire with prizes of 5 x $200 vouchers."
