According to Census Executive Director and National Spokesperson, Andrew Henderson, nine part time positions are available in Canowindra for work between July and September.
Mr Henderson said field officers need access to a car and mobile device.
"What we are looking really for are people who are comfortable moving out and about in the community, particularly in your local area," he said.
"They don't need any prior census experience."
Mr Henderson said the ABS recruits locals because they know their community best.
"Having locals really works much better for us because they know where to look, where to go, where to find households, dwellings on a farm," he said.
"We actually get a picture of every community, however small, however large.
"It's a chance to make a few dollars and to do something for your own community."
Mr Henderson said the role is flexible and would suit someone who is returning to the workforce.
"Maybe they've been in hospitality and the last 12 months hasn't gone well, or maybe people who have been raising a family and they want to get back into the workforce," he said.
"Census can be a real confidence booster because you are out there engaging with people, you're self managing, you've got to organise yourself, be well organised, it's a good step back into the workforce and a good experience."
Looking at other areas, seven Census field officers are required in Boorowa, 15 are needed in Cowra, 46 in Wagga Wagga and 14 in Murrumbidgee.
