Sunday, July 18 saw 4 people tee off in the 9 hole stroke competition. With only nine players the week before this four completed the comp. Winner over the two weeks went to Thelma Bliss with a nett score of 34 winning on a count back from Tige Grant also with nett 34. Remember that the nine hole comp is open to all people both golfers and non-golfers. Tee off is between 9.00 am and 10.30 am each Sunday morning. The Sunday morning comp will continue this week with the Holden Scramble teeing off after the 9 hole comp.
Sunday, July 18 saw 60 players compete in the first Holden Scramble held in Canowindra. With the sun shining in the morning the 20 teams of three people teed off to play the 18 holes of ambrose.
As the day went on the weather became colder with the wind picking up a bit but the golfers braved the conditions to see which team would go into the next round.
Winners for the day went to L. Thompson, J. Maecham and Z. Mitchell (all from Condobolin) with a nett score of 60.5. Second place went to a local team of Ned Grant, Mark Grant and Peter Kennedy with a nett score of 61.16 and third place went to some more locals in Wayne Middleton, Daniel Williams and Joel Diduszko with a nett score of 62.16. Congratulations to all of the players for supporting this event making the day a bigger success than expected.
The day would not be possible without the support and sponsorship from the following people: Waugoola Motors of Cowra, Dave Stretton of Cowra Golf Club and Bridgestone. Thank you to the match committee of the Canowindra Golf Club for their organising of the event, to the Green Keeper Mick Cassidy for having the course in tremendous condition, to Glenn Rue for delivering the drinks on the course to the players, to Trish Knight and her staff for all of the food on the day from the Canowindra Bistro and finally to Andrew Hegarty our Golf Captain for the great effort in getting this event up and event an annual event each year. A final thank you to every other volunteers and staff member for doing their part to help make the day to be what it was.
Another coming event is the Canowindra Invitational, which will be held on August 1, 2004. The event will be a three person ambrose. For details on the qualifiers for the match play championships call into the golfy and have a look on the golf notice board.
Remember to all golfers that the mixed competition is held on the first Saturday of each month so come and have a go and have a lot of fun playing some different events not normally played, the next date will be August 7, 2004. There will be a card draw at 11.00 am so be at the club by 10.30 am with your partner. If you haven't organised a partner put your name down at the club on the sheet provided on the golf notice board.
Note to all members of the Match Committee that the match committee meetings are held on the second Monday of each month and are held at the Canowindra Golf Club at 5.00 pm.
Football
Results for the football tipping competition are posted at the Canowindra Golf Club so pop in and have a look.
Darts
Results for the last few weeks will be in next week's news. This week darts will be back to normal on the Wednesday night with names to be in by 7.30 pm for the 8.00 pm start, all are welcome to play.
Restaurant
The Canowindra Golf Club Bistro is now having Friday night as Steak Night. For only $11.00 you can order a T-Bone, Rump or Scotch Fillet steak all served with vegetables and chips, and Sunday there is a $10.00 roast of the day with dessert. So if you are feeling hungry on Friday night come and try Trish's steaks or on Sunday, come and try the yummy roast.
Saturday, August 14 will see the Canowindra Bistro have another Seafood Night, after the success of the last one. This night will cost $35.00 per head for as much as you can eat. So book your seat with payment to avoid disappointment by Tuesday, August 10. All details are at the Canowindra Golf Club so pop in and pick up a flier about the night. The Canowindra Bistro is open for lunch and dinner from Thursday to Sunday.
Saturday nights raffle winners were Alison Cousins, John Starr, Amanda Walker, Michael Jadezak, Chris Wren, Julie Fairley, Steve Cain, Candice Slattery and Marg Roberts. Sunday raffle winners were Norm Tuckwell, Trish Knight, Peter Bourke, Helen Constable, Peter Flannery, Peter Kennedy, Ben Pearson and Allan Wyburn. Thank you to everyone else for supporting the raffles held at the Canowindra Golf Club on Saturday nights from 7.00 pm and Sunday from 12.00 noon, all are welcome to participate.
