Dave Evans left Canowindra High School after nine years of service and new principal David Lloyd started on Monday.
Mr Lloyd, originally of Bathurst took the position for the lifestyle and to get closer to his extended family in Bathurst.
Mr Lloyd is used to small schools as he was principal at Bourke High School for three years and principal of Dunedoo Central School for four years.
“Canowindra High School has a great reputation and I look forward to meeting and getting to know the community,” Mr Lloyd said.
Mr Lloyd’s plan this year is to get to know everybody, understand the culture of the school and work with the community.
“I want to find out what the school is all about and get a real feel for the place.”
When asked how long he planned to stay Mr Lloyd answered “We are staying, it is open ended.”
Bourke High had roughly 100 students and Canowindra has 170.
“I am used to small schools and that is what I enjoy. My first day has been great,” Mr Lloyd said.
Mr Evans showed Mr Lloyd around for a few days.
“It was good working with Dave for the few days. I am getting to know how things work and looking forward to the rest of the year.”
