The Liberal mayor of Strathfield says he does not see where the council will be able to fit the number of units being proposed for the area in a plan for the redevelopment of Parramatta Road.

UrbanGrowth NSW, set up to drive the development of major property projects in the state, has drawn up a plan for more than 50,000 new apartments to be built along Parramatta Road in concert with the proposed WestConnex motorway.
But a number of councils along the corridor have already endorsed significant development along Parramatta Road and are concerned that the proposals, not yet released to the public, will overwhelm local roads.
"I don't see where we are going to put those units the minister wants us to build," said Gulian Vaccari, the mayor of Strathfield.
Cr Vaccari said he was an enthusiastic supporter of the WestConnex motorway, which is being planned eventually to carve under Parramatta Road.
But he said that even that motorway could be overwhelmed by the potential new apartment projects.
"I don't know that the WestConnex is going to solve all our problems," he said.
"If we are layering another level of density on top of that is the road going to be big enough?"
UrbanGrowth had said that it would release its plans for Parramatta Road in time for a three-month consultation period late this year.
But a spokeswoman for the organisation, which bills itself as the "state's lead organisation responsible for urban transformation," said the planning minister had delayed the release of the Parramatta Road strategy.
A spokesman for minister Pru Goward said the plans for Parramatta Road would be released after the release of the Metropolitan Strategy for the whole of Sydney. He did not say when that would be.
"The NSW government has been upfront with the community in its commitment to the urban renewal of the Parramatta Road corridor, and collaboration is ongoing with councils and communities," the spokesman said.
The Member for Strathfield, Charles Casuscelli, said the roads, planning and transport ministers were sympathetic to concerns about traffic congestion along Parramatta Road and that any increased property development would take place over decades.
"My big focus has got to be on the alignment between any increased development and supporting infrastructure," Mr Casuscelli said.
Traffic modelling for the first stage of WestConnex to be built, the widened M4 between Concord and Parramatta, shows that congestion will worsen on parts of Parramatta Road when a toll is re-imposed on the M4.
