Canowindra first grade put in a solid performance against Grenfell last Saturday winning 32-20 after leading 14 -8 at half time.
Canowindra stared the game well scoring early in the eighth minute with a try to Kain Earsman under the post and Matt McLean converted.
The Tigers lost the ball close to their line to give Grenfell a shot at scoring and it didn't take long winning the scrum and working down the blind to score.
The Canowindra forwards were slowly gaining control of the game and this resulted in a try to Alex Willson and another one to Matt McLean minutes later which was converted to stretch the lead to 14-4.
Canowindra gave away a couple of silly penalties and lost the ball in their own half allowing Grenfell to have more possession and in the closing stages of the half scored a unconverted try.
The momentum swing was evident when you looked at the stats with many players tackle count in the twenties.
Grenfell hit back early in the second half in the fourth minute and then in the eighth minute when their half stole the ball from Jayden Brown who seemed to have not retired at the scrum and ran 50 metres to score.
For the first time Grenfell were in front 16-14 but it was only 10 into the half.
From then on it was all Tigers with tenacious defence and powerful running.
With a welcome return of Zac Bohan strengthening the forward pack, this allowed the likes of Kain Earsman and Alex Willson to run a little wider constantly which constantly strained Grenfell's defensive line.
Kain Earsman scored his second for the day and set up Jayden Brown for his try after breaking the line.
This stretched the lead to 26-16 and Canowindra put on some classy footy for the next and Rob Burn put in short kick which rebounded off a Grenfell defender and Burn pounced on the ball to score and McLean added the extras to seal the win.
The next 15 minutes produced some of the best football of the day but unfortunately the Tigers made an error late for Grenfell to score a consolation try in the dying minutes.
Curtis Hughes and Aaron Earsman as well as Blake Willson all had 23 tackles in the first 30 minutes.
Brad Tangye played strong as did the halves Brydon Hughes and Jayden Brown.
All the squad did their job and can be proud of themselves with the game.
Players player went to Kain Earsman and the three points with Curtis Hughes and Brydon Hughes two and Jayden Brown and Aaron Earsman both shared the one.
Youth League-
Hooray they finally did it, the boys won in great style with a composed game of rugby league.
Grenfell drew first blood with a try in the third minute to lead 4-0 but the Tigers held their grit and struck back in the sixth minute to lead 6-4.
The boys knocked on and then gave away a penalty to Grenfell the chance to score which they took advantage of to lead 8-6.
The Tigers forced their way down the field with power running from Sam Willson, Jayden McAllister and Billy Braithwaite which found them in good position and some smart play from the halves sent the ball wide to a rampaging Wesley Blair to score and Dan added the extras.
This put the Tigers in front 12-8 after only 14 minutes.
Grenfell hit back in the next two minutes but failed to convert which left the score locked at 12 all.
Each side had to play 12 a side as Canowindra had a few away which should've left Grenfell an advantage having reserves to come on.
The Tigers new if they held onto the ball and ran the angles to move Grenfell pack around it would only be their fault if they were to loose the game. The second half was a see sawing match with both sides trying to get the upper hand.
Grenfell scored first and their goal kicker was having an off day and couldn't convert.
Canowindra wasn't going to let this one go and was pulled down just short of the line and Robbie Wiegold saw a hole and snuck through to score the try and converted by Dan Friend.
The forwards still working hard Dan Friend in his new position of five-eight for the day found space out wide to pick up Will Middleton to score in the twelfth minute.
This tied the score again and anybody could win it was up to the side that controlled the play would end up on top.
Grenfell scored again after some clever footwork from their winger and the score was locked up again 22 all.
Grenfell scored with ten to go and to lead 26-22 and some may of thought it maybe over for the Tigers.
Canowindra had work together and their belief in their own ability come to the fore and they posted a try near the post a second for Will Middleton but the conversion went astray left the score 26 all.
With minutes on the clock and after a long delay some boys spending the rest of the game on the side line Canowindra had the penalty.
This put them 20 metres out from Grenfell's line.
The Tigers drew in the defence and swung the ball to Will Middleton to score wide out which seal the boys first win.
Players' player was Will Middleton as well as the three points player award, two went to Dan Friend and one to Jack Grant and Billy Briathwaite.
A well deserved win.
League Tag-
The Tigresses fought hard on Saturday against some very sticky Grenfell tags.
Grenfell pulled out some fine attacking moves which Canowindra responded to well.
Canowindra's attack also looked strong and promising with many breaks and metres being made.
A few early tries put Grenfell on the score board but the girls didn't give up.
Krystal went over with a beautiful chip and chase in the dying second of the first half to keep the score within two points.
The second half was a hard arm wrestle in the heat and the wind.
Neither team were willing to back down which made for a great game.
Grenfell managed to cross the line another two times before the end of the game.
The girls are going back to the drawing board before we take them on again in a semi-final next week.
Players' player was Ash, three points went to Teiya, two points Hayley and one point to Hannah and Kath.
