The team at the Hub, Canowindra High School’s canteen, have introduced a brand new way of ordering for their students.
Students can now order recess and lunch on the Hub’s Facebook page.
Canteen manager Sue Townsend said it is just one of the major changes they have made to make the canteen a more healthy and affordable alternative.
“We really need the kids to know about this,” she said.
“We are moving towards home cooking.”
Sue said the canteen had faced closure in the past and that inspired the team to completely transform the way they operate.
Local organisations also helped raised thousands to keep the canteen operational.
“We were in dire straits, several thousand in the red,” Sue said.
“We had to either close the canteen all together or change our ways… so we had a complete revamp.”
The team have completely renovated the canteen sitting area, fitting it out with USB and charging ports for students and pillows and blankets for the colder months.
There are also plans for art students to paint a mural in the area.
The canteen itself has seen some major changes over the past few months, with a complete refurbishment of the kitchen area, including new appliances and equipment.
In March the canteen rolled out a brand new menu for students which focused on healthy, homemade food.
Canteen manager Sue Townsend said it has meant more freshly prepared food for the students.
"It's a bit of extra work but its very exciting,” she said.
"We want to provide healthy options for kids."
Sue said it wouldn’t have been possible without the help of the canteen’s dedicated volunteers.
“We have a couple of really loyal volunteers,” Sue said.
Sue said she hopes their success can continue into the future, but it all depends on the students.
“We want all the kids to use the canteen so we don’t have to close down,” Sue said.
“This is the best job I’ve ever had.”
