Played on a boggy surface at Peak Hill, the Tigers let a 14-point second half advantage slip to just two points at full-time – setting up a tense finish for the travelling Canowindra fans.
Momentum swung during the first 40 minutes as both side’s struggled on the heavy pitch but three Canowindra tries gave the visitors an 18-10 lead at the break.
Tries to Nick Traves, Ham Tina and Aaron Earsman were all converted by Matt Mclean.
Tina was involved in the lead up to the opening points of the second half finding Alex Willson in support to extend the Tigers’ lead to 14.
Canowindra spent the next 20 minutes parked on their own line defending countless attacking raids by the Roosters who eventually scored on the left side.
Some ill discipline and lack of respect for possession placed the Tigers under pressure and with seven minutes remaining the hosts closed the gap to two points, following a converted try.
The Tigers dug in and found some favourable territory during the final stages and closed the game out, winning 24-22.
Canowindra’s players’ player went to Stuart Scott, three points went to Brydon Hughes, Aaron Earsman claimed two and Willson brothers Blake and Alex collected one point each.
This Sunday the Tigers return to Tom Clyburn Oval where they’ll host the seventh placed Eugowra Golden Eagles.
League tag, who beat Peak Hill also, start proceedings about 12.50pm.
