Thurtell, 25, avoided jail at Cowra Local Court on Wednesday, for multiple charges and a breach of bond.
Solicitor Paul Johnson asked the court to extend “mercy” for his client saying Thurtell will be “compelled” to comply with an intensive corrections order.
“I’m asking the court give him another go,” solicitor Paul Johnson said.
Magistrate Peter Dare imposed the intensive corrections order but warned Thurtell he won’t come back to court if he “stuffs up,” instead he’ll go into custody.
Thurtell was facing charges of assault, intimidating fear and resist a police officer as well as the bond breach.
The assault and the intimidation charge derives from an offence on September 30 last year on Blue Jacket Lookout Road, Canowindra.
Thurtell and the victim were driving separate vehicles along the narrow road and a collision occurred.
Statements tendered at court say a heated argument took place resulting in Thurtell pushing the victim who fell to the ground.
Police was contacted and Thurtell was placed under arrest about 2.30pm that day.
After failing to comply with community corrections in relation to a court ordered bond, a warrant was put out for Thurtell’s arrest earlier this year.
He was located by police at a residence on Waddell Street, Canowindra about 8pm on February 19.
When placed under arrest, police say Thurtell became increasingly agitated.
He was granted permission to speak with his family and then ran from the police before becoming restrained at a neighboring property.
From there he was taken to Cowra Police Station.
