The students split up into teams and helped with odd jobs at the Canowindra Community Garden and Canowindra Historical Museum.
Margie Crowther from the Canowindra Community Garden said the students did an excellent job helping out with tasks such as weeding, turning the compost and planting.
“We did lots of different jobs, we had eighteen of them from 8.30am till 12.30pm,” she said.
“They swapped around lots of different jobs, turning the compost requires lots of arms and legs to do.”
She said the students get a lot out of the trip too, meeting locals and seeing what a rural lifestyle looks like.
“The Big Lift is as much about meeting rural people as it is about volunteering,” Margie said.
“The conversations are as important.”
