The Australian women’s football team put in an impressive display in front of a sell-out crowd out at Penrith’s Pepper Stadium.
It was a tense affair in the first half, with De Vanna breaking the goal-scoring drought in the 41st minute.
The Matildas held on to lead 1-0 at half time.
Kerr then found the back of the net from a header in the 67th minute to help extend Australia’s lead to 2-0.
Brazil bounced back 12 minutes later via a goal from Debinha.
That’s how the scored remained, with the Matildas holding on to the 2-1 advantage.
Five yellow cards were handed out during the game, including to Australia’s Caitlin Foord and Kerr.
Brazil’s Djenifer, Andressa Alves and Rosana also received yellow cards.
The 2017 International Series will continue when the Matildas face Brazil on Tuesday at Newcastle’s McDonald Jones Stadium.
