Cabonne Council says 17 of the solar lights installed the footpath were vandalised in the early hours of Sunday, March 17.
Only three of the solar lights now remain.
The costs associated with this damage, according to Cabonne, is around $18,000.
The solar lights were installed as part of the work Council and the community are undertaking to activate the Canowindra CBD areas to improve the attraction, amenities and ease of access throughout the town.
Funding for the project was provided through NSW and Federal Government grant program specifically for the activation of the CBD.
"Whilst Council acknowledges some concerns with the installation of the lights, it is disappointing to see new infrastructure destroyed in a matter of days with no thought to how this will affect the community," a spokesperson for Cabonne said.
