Visitors to this year’s Sydney Craft & Quilt Fair in Darling Harbour will be amongst the first to see more than 30 amazing art quilts by finalists of the Australian Patchwork & Quilting (AP&Q) and Australasian Quilt Convention (AQC) 2010 Challenge, REMEMBER.
Remember me creators Debbie Guihot and Robyn Wilkinson have been friends for more than 10 years and have businesses next door to each other.
When they heard about the Challenge, they decided they would enter a quilt together.
It took three weeks to complete the quilt which utilised a variety of techniques
including, appliqué, hand embroidery, fabric printed images, hand dying and painting of the earth fabric, collage, stamping using inks and freehand machine quilting.
Debbie has been quilting for 11 years and loves the challenge of taking an idea from her mind or a dream and representing it in fabric, while Robyn specialises in scrapbooking and papercraft.
Entrants were provided free reign with quilt design and could apply techniques including piecing, appliqué, embroidery, and whole cloth and/or manipulated fabric.
While any materials were allowed to be used, the final result had to be flexible in nature and consist of three layers of fabric held together with stitching.
The exhibition of quilts will continue on a nationwide tour throughout 2010, travelling exclusively with the Craft & Quilt Fairs.
The Craft & Quilt Fair is Australia’s favourite event for people who are interested in craft and all things handmade. Under one roof visitors will see inspirational displays and have access to a huge program of free workshops and hands-on classes. Specialist retailers from around Australia will be selling supplies for sewing, embroidery, knitting, scrapbooking, cardmaking, quilting, jewellery making and much more.
It starts on June 16 at the Sydney Exhibition Centre.
