TRIBUTE TO THE ANZACS
As we approach this ANZAC Day on Saturday the 25th April 2015 to honour the heroism, tenacity and resilience of the men and women who have, and are continuing to defend our wonderful country, we are especially saluting that group of young men who in 1915 were sent to the shores of Gallipoli. In the darkest hours before dawn these young men from Australia and New Zealand ready themselves to storm the beach at ANZAC Cove, not knowing that this event would live on in our nation’s history and in the hearts and memories of Australians regardless of age. They are regarded heroes not necessarily for what they achieved, but for their determination to achieve against the odds, it’s of courage, integrity in adversity; and it is a legend of free and independent spirits
They were Australians and New Zealanders whose ancestry came from almost every corner of the world; of every possible shade or colour. But on the ground, amongst the men themselves, they were brothers together in a greater struggle. In conditions we simply cannot comprehend, they fought courageously, were larrikins together, and they cried together, and they helped each other in ways rarely seen among men in everyday life. They generated a new spirit, a new vitality, and out of this brotherhood – this mateship- grew the ANZAC legend
Their determination was our first contribution to the world as a nation – Australia was only 14 years old
The respect that is shown 100 years after the event, speaks volumes for the young men who left these shores prepared to give their lives so the future generations could grow and would preserve the qualities needed to become a successful and prosperous nation. We thank you “THE ANZACs”
Lest We Forget
