This year the show featured a new shed complex and was officially opened by Ian Gosper, Mayor of Cabonne.
“It’s great to have such a multi-purpose facility like this.”
“Country people have the ability to make things happen.”
The shed complex housed the prime lambs, ewes and rams.
This year the father daughter duo Phil and Jo Balcombe took out a number of awards including supreme ewe and ram of the show.
As well as showcasing the best livestock the pavilion was lit up with colour with an array of flowers, cakes, produce, art and craft.
Jean Goodacre received the overall champion after winning up to 37 prizes. She was most successful in marmalades, most successful in preserves and champion cake just to name a few.
Jean has been entering in the show for about 20 years and says: “I learnt to cook out at the farm, my mother was a very good cook”.
“It takes days and a lot of work.”
The official proceedings on Saturday saw Billy Paul open this year’s show.
Following an introduction from president of the show society Sam Stranger the 2015 Miss Showgirl was announced.
This year’s showgirl was awarded to Meg Devlin who will now represent Canowindra at the Zone finals and junior showgirl was awarded to Julia Stanley.
The official proceedings ended with an award that recognises two people who have shown dedication and commitment to the show society over the years. Geoffrey Beath and Lynn Russell were the recipients of the life member of the show award.
Geoffrey has been involved in the show for 32 years and says: “The show is a tribute to growers and producers in the district and I wanted to secure the longevity of that as it is beneficial to the community”.
Lynn Russell has also had an extensive involvement in the show, as she has been previous secretary, president and treasurer.
“ I do it for the community involvement, you just start and keep going”.
This year the show reflected community spirit and how people come together to not only showcase their talent but to support the local community.
