The Canowindra Arts Group run by a group of like minded art enthusiasts are looking to revive and revitalise the arts scene around town by reopening a permanent arts workshop and gallery space.
Canowindra Arts Group member, Arthur Falconer, said the group was currently looking for a suitable location for a gallery and workshop space.
"The old arts space was turned into a B and B, which means we have no where to display any artists works.”
“We are currently negotiating for a suitable location to use as our gallery and workshop space and we’re hunting for funding to be able to do that”.
Mr Falconer said the group was involving themselves on the business side of the project and looking forward to co-ordinating an arts space.
“We’re focusing on the business side and co-ordinating a permanent arts space, which will include an area to run workshops and have a changing gallery area.”
“Over time we’ll purchase all the infrastructure we need and have insurances covered, so that all an artist has to do is come in run a workshop and then go home.”
“If we can get the groups name out there we’ll be able to have not only locals attend, but others from outer regions. Which will give us the ability to create repeat tourism,” he said.
Mr Falconer said the group was aiming at displaying the works of artists from towns and villages and was currently in the process of hunting for them.
“We’re looking for artists at the moment, they’re a hidden resource. We want any artist it doesn’t mater what they work with, fabric, pottery, photography, ceramics, sculptures, paint, anything,” he said.
The arts group will be holding their inaugural art show titled the Artful 8 in October this year, the show will display a wide variety of works over a 2 week period from eight local area artists.
The Artful 8 are:
- Ann Morton from Cowra
- David Isbester from Canowindra
- Derek Maitland from Canowindra
- Heather Valance from Canowindra
- Melissa Barber from Canowindra
- Isabelle Mathieu from Cargo
- Virginia Mooney from Canowindra
- Sue Hodge from Canowindra
It’s hoped that the Artful 8 exhibition will be the genesis of a series of art events including a regular "Arts Trail" involving all local visual artists and all forms of art.
