This year’s shared story will be the highly entertaining story The Cow Tripped Over the Moon written by Tony Wilson and illustrated by Laura Wood.
Central West Libraries manager Jan Richards said the annual campaign aimed to encourage more young Australians to read and enjoy books.
“This is a vibrant, fun event that promotes the value of reading and literacy,” Ms Richards said.
“The staff will be taking on various character roles from the book and performing the story for the audience.”
Now in its 17th successful year, the fun event promotes the value of reading using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the national curriculum for foundation to year six.
National Simultaneous Storytime is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA).
Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country.
In 2016 over 520,000 children at over 3,500 locations across Australia took part.
