It's unusual for Game of Thrones love stories to have a happy ending, but if the rumours are true Ygritte and Jon Snow might just give us one (despite the couple's on-screen relationship not ending so well on screen).
Co-stars Kit Harington and Rose Leslie, who sparked rumours that their on-screen relationship had translated into real-life in 2012, have announced their engagement with a traditional 'Forthcoming Marriages' listing in The Times of London newspaper. This confirmation comes after People Magazinereported the couple's news yesterday.
It reads, "Mr K.C. Harington and Miss R.E. Leslie. The engagement is announced between Kit, younger son of David and Deborah Harington of Worcestershire, and Rose, middle daughter of Sebastian and Candy Leslie of Aberdeenshire."
The pair have remained tight-lipped about their relationship. They reportedly split after a year together, before reconciling last year. In April 2016, Harrington and Leslie both 30, confirmed their relationship by making their red carpet debut at the Olivier Awards in London. The couple are yet to confirm the engagement or offer any details.
A month after going public with their relationship, Harrington spoke candidly to L'Uomo Vogue about their early romance, admitting filming in Iceland with Leslie for season two was his "favourite memory" of the series. Leslie's character has since departed the show after the fourth season, leaving us with their trademark line, "you know nothing Jon Snow."
"Because the country is beautiful, because the Northern Lights and magical and because it was there that I fell in love," he told that publication.
"If you're already attracted to someone, and then they play your love interest in the show, it become very easy to fall in love."
Perhaps we have Nicole Kidman to thank for the engagement. Back in June, Kidman played the role of the embarrassing aunt who asks, "why aren't you married yet?" when she appeared with Harrington on The Late Late Show with James Corden. The actor revealed that he had moved in with his "best friend" Leslie.
"I've moved in with my other best friend, Rose," he said. "I'm very, very happy and it's going well. She has all sorts of ideas for the house."
"Are you going to get married or ... ?" Kidman, 50, asked a seemingly pressured Harington. "I think it's kind of nice if you're going to live together maybe to at least get engaged.
"I've been put on the spot by Nicole Kidman," Harington coyly responded. "I mean, it's step-by-step, step-by-step."
"I'm working hard for [Leslie] here," Kidman turned to the audience, laughing.
