Mr Thompson, who also owns McPherson’s Parts and Service in Parkes and is buying Forbes Machinery Centre, officially took the reins at Cowra Machinery Centre on April 4.
“A silent partner has helped make the move for us but we’ll still be making our own decisions and continuing as the same business.”
Mr Thompson was born and bred in Parkes and started in the agriculture industry when he left school in the year 1992.
He’s been at McPherson’s for 26 years, beginning as a diesel mechanic before moving into workshop service management and sales.
Mr Thompson said he’s looking forward to maintaining the business’s traditions including supporting local businesses, local sporting teams and putting on apprentices.
Tony [Bear] Lucas has also been appointed branch manager and has about 15 staff under his watch.
“It’s the same staff and the same business really, the relationships with customers will only get stronger,” Tony Lucas said.
Business directors Ian Davies, Bob McKeown and Ken Sly will stay with the business for 18 months to two years before going into retirement.
“It’s still a family owned business and I come from a family owned business so I want to continue that,” Mr Thompson added.
