There was plenty of noise and excitement from St Edward's and Canowindra Preschool students ahead of National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) and the reading of Aplacas with Maracas by Matt Cosgrove.
Students not only listened to the book being read, but also had the opportunity to play maracas as the story of alpacas Macca and pal Al competed in a talent competition.
Now in it's 19th year, NSS aims to promote the value of reading and literacy and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6.
Local schools are encouraging their students to read for at least 10 minutes a day to help improve vocabulary, reading comprehension, verbal fluency and spelling.
Reading any materials, be it picture books, comics, novels, recipes or even the TV guide, for 10 minutes a day exposes children to more than 600,000 words a year.
