The countdown is on to the 2019 Canowindra Show and with that, young women are being encouraged to put their hand up for this year's Canowindra Showgirl competition.

Entries for this year's competition close on Monday, August 26 and organiser and former Canowindra Showgirl, Meg Austin, says it's a great experience.

"You can try it and decide that it's not for you and that's absolutely fine but you never know until you give it a go, it might be the best decision of your life," she said.

"I'd hate to miss out on that opportunity, if I looked back three years ago and decided not to do it, it would be a such a shame, all the opportunities I would have missed that I didn't even know were available to me."

Ms Austin said entering the Showgirl competition gave her new skills, confidence and the opportunity to meet new friends.

"My number one big thing is networking, I think it's amazing the amount of people that you meet through it, who are all likeminded and they have the same interests," she said.

"They enjoy community involvement and they enjoy public speaking and they have a real passion for rural NSW.

"I think it's the best practice and opportunity that you could have, not only to speak on stage in a public setting but also just general mingling skills."
