CYCLISTS from across Australia will be taking on Mount Panorama next month, except they'll be doing it from their own living rooms.

Mount Panorama will be the third round in the FulGaz Tour of Australia, a virtual ride where Cycling Australia members have the opportunity to venture onto some of the country's most iconic roads using their own indoor trainer.

FulGaz uses pre-recorded footage of roads to give riders an immersive experience, with their Mount Panorama footage taken a day before the Bathurst 1000 to give cyclists an uninterrupted journey around the famous circuit.

Bathurst's round gets underway from June 1, where participants will go up against one another to record the fastest time possible.

Maybe we'd have a home ground advantage.

The series comes on the back of the recent State of Origin Zwift series, which pitted New South Wales and Queensland riders against one other online.

Of the Bathurst cyclists who participated in that series, Ray Thorn, said it would be an interesting experience.

"I'd definitely be looking at it, for sure," he said.

"Maybe we'd have a home ground advantage but it's a steep bloody hill no matter which way you look at it."

The event's opening round is currently underway - a climb up Mount Lofty in South Australia before a fast descent into the finish line used for stage one in last year's Tour Down Under.

Prior to Bathurst's round riders will take on a climb situated at Springbrook in Queensland.

The tour ends with rounds at the Dandenongs and a mystery round located somewhere in Tasmania.

Prizes will be awarded for different age groups and riders can choose to participate in as many or as few stages as possible.

All Cycling Australia members are eligible for a free four week trial of the FulGaz program to participate in the event.
