Previously held in March, next year's Newcrest Orange Challenge will be moved to September 12 after L'Étape Australia announced earlier this month they were postponing their 2020 cycling event to the same weekend of the Newcrest Orange Challenge.

Bicycle Network General Manager of Events Rebecca Lane said the Newcrest Orange Challenge's new date will maximise the number of event participants and visitors to the Central West region.

"Holding the Newcrest Orange Challenge in September 2021 will make it easier for more people to visit Orange and the Central West and spend a weekend soaking up the spring sunshine," said Ms Lane.

The event will again be based at Robertson Park in Orange and have three ride distances of 70km, 100km and 170km.

The ride travels from Orange through Mandurama, Canowindra and Cargo.

The 70km ride starts in Orange and finishes in Canowindra which will give participants the chance to shop in and visit Canowindra's retail outlets and attraction.

The 100km ride starts in Canowindra and finishes in Orange.

The 170km ride is a loop that starts and finishes in Orange.

Each ride takes in the country roads, rolling hills and farmland of the region.

A kids ride and special time trial race, Prologue in the Park, will be held at Robertson Park on the Saturday before the main event, adding to the fun and excitement in the heart of Orange.

"The event village at Robertson Park creates a buzz around town. We'll be back there in 2021 and we'd love to see locals come down and get involved in the Newcrest Orange Challenge," said Ms Lane.

"It's been a tough time recently for regional communities who have had to deal with drought, bushfires and coronavirus. We can't wait to come back and celebrate in September 2021."
