According to data provided to the Canowindra News by Transport for NSW, 15 lives were lost in accidents on central west roads in 2023.
Lithgow district roads saw the highest number of fatalities, with five lives lost in motor vehicle accidents.
Cabonne Roads accounted for four deaths, and one tragic loss occurred in the Cowra Shire.
Despite warnings and awareness efforts, the grim trend persists.
One person lost their life in an accident on the Belubula Way between Canowindra and Mandurama in the early weeks of this year, with another fatality reported in a Cowra accident.
Sally Webb, Deputy Secretary of Safety, Environment, and Regulation at Transport for NSW, expressed the profound impact of each death on the community.
"Every death or serious injury on NSW roads is a tragedy, and the impact echoes through the community," she said.

"Road deaths are particularly hard for many country communities where people may have life-long ties to county towns."
Ms Webb emphasised the commitment to implementing various road safety measures.
These include infrastructure enhancements designed to save lives, road safety education and campaigns, and the deployment of police and automated enforcement.
"The NSW Government is committed to lowering the toll, but we can't do it alone - we need everyone to work together so everyone makes it home safely."
