Cabonne Council will this month consider a proposal to preserve the rich paleontological heritage of the Canowindra region, contained in plans for a $5.5 million revitalisation of the Age of Fishes Museum.

The plan is not funded and would rely on government grants.
Canowindra councillor Jenny Weaver believes it is now time government assisted to ensure the plan becomes a reality.
"Grants today are going to be hard to come by," Cr Weaver said.
"This is not just a national, it is an international world acclaimed site.
'We've (the Age of Fishes) has been going for 27 years now, trying to get money out of government to support this project and got absolutely no where.
"$10 million would see this done, and that's chicken feed to governments," Cr Weaver said.
Rebecca Johnson Cabonne leader of the Community and Economy highlighted the significance of the project for the local community and economy at a committee meeting of councillors earlier this month.
"We've got a really good pitch document now," Ms Johnson said.
"Yes, it is a big project and we would be looking for a lot of money but we have something to work from," Ms Johnson said.
Ms Johnson's comments were in relation to applying for grant funding to see the plan become a reality for Canowindra and Cabonne.
The original Age of Fishes museum, designed by renowned Australian architect John Andrews and completed in 2004, stands as a testament to architectural innovation.
It showcases an exceptional collection of fossils from the Devonian period, offering visitors an engaging journey through time and a unique educational experience.
"The Age of Fishes Museum is one of only two fish fossil museums in the world, which creates a unique opportunity for neighbouring businesses in Canowindra to capitalise on visitor attraction," Ms Johnson said.
