"We let ourselves down with discipline, which is easily fixed," Python Cormack McHenry said after the game.
"A few less yellow cards and we're right up there," McHenry said.
"There were lots of positives," he said.
The boys came out strong and gave it to the 2023 premiers, with some huge hits and great defence, battling it out for a while with a nil score line for about 20 minutes, before Wellington scored the first try through a maul followed by a second quick try.
That didn't stop our boys as they came back at Wellington with a try scored by Ty Ashe who converted his own try, coming off a strong run from Alex Wood bringing the score back to 10-7.
The boys started the second half fired up and ready to hit it out again pushing Wellington into their half before fly half Will Bradley snuck up the side of the field to secure the side's second try taking the score to 12-10 in Canowindra's favour.
As the rain and fatigue were settling in the boys battled with Wellington up and down the field in the mud and wet conditions before Wellington scored a few more but the Pythons never gave up.
The side's final try was a fantastic pick up by Hayden Cummings after a Wellington error which saw him run 40 metres to secure the side's final try bringing the full time score to 27-17.
The boys had a tremendous game against last year's premiers.
3 points went to Hugh Breen.

1 point went to Jacob Baker and Ty Ashe.
Players Player went to Dylan Slattery and James Watson.
